We've joined forces with the Canton Community Foundation in a partnership to bring anti-tobacco public service messages to radio listeners.
Our staff has been producing public service announcements that target teens with anti-tobacco messages. The announcements will be aired on 88.1FM. The best announcements will be packaged into a public service campaign that will be sent to stations throughout the Metro Detroit area and the State of Michigan. The staff member that produces the very best announcement will receive a $100 cash prize.
Thirteen students joined together in various teams to produce eight announcements. The winning PSA was produced by Steve Filios, Canton Senior, Mary Radcliffe, Canton Senior, and John Tantalo, Salem Senior. Their PSA was praised for it's balance of humor and professionalism. A panel of judges that included Joan Noricks and Debra Madonna, representing the Canton Community Foundation, and Bill Keith, 88.1FM Station Manager chose the winning submission.
Funding for the program comes from money the Canton Community Foundation received from the State of Michigan Tobacco Settlement Funds distributed through the Council of Michigan Foundations. Through participating 88.1FM will receive a grant of nearly $3,000.
The PSA's will be packaged and sent to area radio stations in March.
